Each 45-minute session is carefully structured to balance learning, activity, and fun:
Every class begins with dynamic stretching and a fun warm-up to get kids energized and ready to learn.
Looking and Listening: Kids are taught to stay engaged by following the “Two L’s” of class, ensuring they stay focused and attentive while coaches teach.
Through step-by-step instructions, kids practice fundamental techniques, followed by drills and interactive games that reinforce what they’ve learned. These activities allow them to “play” within a set of structured rules tied to the day’s or week’s focus.
Beyond martial arts, children learn to cooperate with partners, follow instructions, and show respect for their teammates, coaches, and even their parents.
PARENTING YOUNG CHILDREN IS A REAL CHALLENGE.
You must balance their natural inquisitiveness and high energy with trying to teach them the basic skills they need for school and life.
Discipline, sharing, and self-control are all things they need to learn to be successful.
The ideal setting is one that’s got some structure but works with kids at their current developmental level. If they have fun while they’re learning, they’ll be more likely to retain those lessons and learn the skills they need.
KIDS MARTIAL ARTS (AGES 4 - 7) PROGRAM
All of our programs for this age group focus on the building blocks of their respective Martial Art. The kids will learn how to move and control their bodies while building a base that prepares them for the next level when they move into the 7-13 year old programs. These classes are designed to be fun while at the same time teaching kids how to learn in a class setting. The kids will learn to look and listen to the instructors and apply instructions step by step. As a bonus, these classes happen to be a great outlet for releasing their energy. They’ll get a lot of exercise while learning valuable skills.

STUDYING MARTIAL ARTS BUILDS PHYSICAL COORDINATION AND CONTROL
Young children who learn martial arts find out quickly that each movement must be intentional. They learn to control their movements to the best of their ability.
They also practice hand-eye coordination and learn about their bodies. That means they’ll be less likely to be unintentionally destructive.
YOUNG MARTIAL ARTS STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO FOCUS
Getting young kids to pay attention can feel like an impossible task. The structure of our martial arts classes shows kids the importance of focus and teaches them by having them apply it to easily-achievable tasks.
The focus they learn in the dojo is something they’ll take home – and into the classroom. That’s why kids who study martial arts tend to be good students, too.
Kids in the 4-7 program learn:
Lessons in listening, following instructions, and respecting others build positive habits that extend to home and school.
Through fun yet challenging drills, kids are encouraged to work through tough situations and never give up on themselves.
Every small success helps build their confidence, creating a positive “I can do it!” mindset.
MARTIAL ARTS HELPS KIDS LEARN TO DEAL WITH FRUSTRATION
Martial arts instruction requires students to pursue goals to earn new belts. Young kids can easily become frustrated when they don’t get what they want, but studying martial arts helps them learn the power of persistence.
The physical activity in our classes also helps kids manage stress and anxiety by allowing them to burn it off in a safe and constructive way.
KIDS WHO STUDY MARTIAL ARTS LEARN GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
Losing is not anybody’s idea of fun, but we all need to learn how to accept a defeat gracefully and move on. We teach students that losing is part of life – and it’s what you do after you lose that tells people who you are.
Even though martial arts is an individual sport, we cultivate an environment of supportive teamwork where students root for one another.

FAQS
Martial Arts is about so much more than fighting. At Ascendant Martial Arts, we teach kids discipline, focus, assertiveness, work ethic and problem solving. We build confidence in kids by challenging them and helping them overcome these challenges. It is our belief that the combination of skill and confidence will put an end to fights before they even start. Fighting is NOT encouraged and will always be spoken of as a last resort.
No. Nobody is ever forced or expected to compete. Competition is an integral part of getting you out of your comfort zone. With that said, we recognize that competition is not for everyone.
No. You will and your child can decide which program(s) you are most interested in and just do those classes. We have a good mix of kids who do everything nad who only do 1 or 2 programs. We suggest you take into consideration interests, schedule and required equipment when deciding which program(s) you want to focus on.
A lot of our members were shy, nervous and intimidated before they ever stepped foot in the building. It's more common than you think. We have a great community of children that will go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. Often, the shyness is gone before the end of the first class.
