Ways-to-Rest-and-Recover-Ascendant-Martial-ArtsDepending on how your body is feeling, you might need to vary the methods you use to rest, recover, and prepare for your next workout or training session. Sometimes your body might need a few more hours of sleep. Other times, it might need some gentle movements, like stretching or yoga.

If you feel like you need to spend some quality time recharging your body and mind, here are a few different ways to rest and recover:

1. Meditate and breathe.

Sitting quietly and focusing on your breathing is a great way to reset and restore some clarity in your mind. Even if you only have a few minutes, meditation can help you find a little bit of relaxation in an otherwise hectic or busy day.

2. Take a rest day.

A consistent training routine leads to so many different health and fitness benefits. The key to maintaining that routine is to keep a balance between training and recovering. Sometimes, the thing your body needs most to help you achieve your martial arts or fitness goals is a little bit of rest.

3. Go for a walk.

Going for a walk outside is a simple and effective way to rest, recover, and restore. You’ll get a little bit of movement while getting some quality time outdoors.

4. Get more sleep.

While you’re asleep, your body carries out various processes that promote recovery, growth, and healing. With more sleep, you’ll get more quality recovery time. Sneak in a few more moments of sleep by going to bed earlier or with a quick power nap during the day.

5. Do some mobility work.

Another way to promote recovery and restoration is through myofascial release work using tools like tennis balls and foam rollers. It’s helpful to target trouble spots in your hips, quads, hamstrings, thoracic spine, and calves.
