Are you curious about martial arts, but something seems to hold you back from giving it a try? You’re not alone! Many people are interested in trying martial arts but keep putting it off.
Here are a few common reasons why you haven’t tried martial arts just yet:
1. You’re not sure it’s for you.
Maybe you don’t really consider yourself an athlete, or you’ve never really been into sports or going to the gym. That’s okay! It doesn’t mean that martial arts isn’t for you. Those who participate in classes and training are a lot like you – probably more than you might think. At some point, they were also right where you are now. Martial arts training really is for everyone.
2. You’re intimidated to start.
It’s intimidating to think about starting something new. But we understand what it feels like because we’ve been there ourselves. If you’re not comfortable with the idea of getting started on your own, recruit a friend or two to join you for a class. You’ll immediately feel more comfortable with a familiar face. If you’re not able to find a friend to join you, then tell yourself that you’ll go to one class. Just one. Try it and see what happens.
3. You’re worried about getting hurt.
We definitely understand the hesitation or worry about getting hurt. If you’ve seen any action movie, then you might assume that’s what martial arts is all about. The truth is that learning martial arts is safe, given the instructors are knowledgeable, and the environment is well-structured. Martial arts will teach you a brand new set of skills. You’ll move in different ways, and you might get sore or uncomfortable. But that’s part of the learning process.
