Here are a few tips on how to build a consistent training and workout routine at home:

1. Participate in virtual classes.

Virtual classes provide a great workout or training session. You’re able to maintain the momentum you had built up with your in-person training and classes. At the same time, participating in virtual classes helps you build consistency through accountability. Classes are held at specific times throughout the day. You can treat these classes like an appointment making it more likely that you’ll attend.

2. Work out as a family.

Another way to keep a consistent routine is to train and work out as a family. It’s a great activity to do together while breaking up your day with something fun. And when you all participate together, you can hold each other accountable making it less likely that you’ll skip out on class.

3. Remove distractions.

Working out at home is convenient. But you’re also surrounded by a variety of distractions, both small (like your phone) and large (like the couch or TV). When it’s time to train, remove as many distractions as you can.

4. Set or modify your fitness and martial arts goals.

You can also stay more consistent by setting or modifying your personal goals. For example, set a goal around how many weekly training sessions or classes you plan to attend each week. And then keep track of your progress.

5. Stay connected with others online.

Connecting with your martial arts and fitness community reminds you that you have a full network of supportive people out there motivating and encouraging you. Staying in touch with others, including your instructors, is yet another great source of accountability. Rather than feeling like you’re on your own, checking in with this community can help you stay consistent.

6. Make training and working out a priority.

Make the decision that getting consistent physical activity is a priority in your life. There are so many physical and mental health benefits of getting regular exercise. Remind yourself that you’re doing something great for your body and your mind.
